I have always walked.
Walked, hitch hiked, national express, camped out, trains, trespassed, climbed mountains but most of all just walked.
I love the Lake District and the Brecons, Black Sail and Trefan.
My friend Ken says “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing”. I almost completely agree, but for a slight reservation concerning fierce easterly winds when you’re heading that way.
It was a bit of a blow to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011, aged only 52 but I haven’t stopped for breath since then. Highlights since diagnosis include:
A very pretty garden
London’s finest drum & bass sound system
Bagging a few hills, including Great Gable
Buying a wholly unsuitable vehicle
Getting an unexpected lift in a brightly coloured Range Rover when I visited Fylingdales
… and walking the coastline of Yorkshire from Staithes to Scarborough (I was staying with Lee at Boggle Hole), which gave me the idea for the current mission.
